This project aims to define the concept of Social-Ecological Well-Being (SEWB) within the Alto Paraná Atlantic Forest (APAF) through a participatory, bottom-up approach. SEWB integrates ecological and human dimensions, acknowledging the interconnectedness of environmental and social systems. By incorporating the perspectives of local communities, conservation practitioners, and scientific researchers, the project seeks to develop an inclusive framework to support conservation and sustainable development efforts in the region.

The main objectives include: 1) defining SEWB and key indicators for its measurement in the APAF through interviews and workshops; 2) developing a co-produced comprehensive policy brief with actors from Argentina, Brazil, and Paraguay, synthesising lessons learned, outlining effective participatory methods, and addressing challenges faced in past conservation efforts; and 3) enhancing local participation and capacity, fostering trust, strengthening community engagement, and positioning local actors as central in all steps of the project. This initiative is designed to create a practical, scalable SEWB framework that is representative and meaningful for the region, supporting future conservation projects by aligning with local desires and understanding of human well-being in the APAF.
