Tilia species have been used for their tranquilizing properties in the traditional medicine. The flowers of Tilia are consumed in herbal infusion as a non narcotic sedative which helps to remediate dream disorders or anxiety. Tilia mexicana is considered an endangered species, and it is subjected to human pressures throughout its distribution. In this project we will focus on evaluating the effects of flower extraction from wild populations of T. mexicana on the levels of seedling recruitment and population genetic diversity and connectivity through gene flow. These data would be crucial for designing management and conservation practices for the species.
