Strengthening of Community Conservation Initiatives in Buffer Zone Area of Kanha Tiger Reserve II
Forest and wildlife conservation could be more effective and possible if the local community taking part on conservation, the project will enable, educate, aware and skill local community on different aspects of conservation to promote community conservation.
The project "Strengthening of Community Conservation Initiatives in Buffer Zone area of Kanha Tiger Reserve" is a continue effort of last project supported by RSGF. The project will strengthen community initiatives towards forest and wildlife conservation. The project will trained and strengthen more than 300 village volunteers on scientific harvesting of NTFP, its primary processing and marketing. The forest is good livelihood resource for local and tribal community, but its better when the people use the resources wisely. Protection is the best way of sustainability for natural resources.
The project will support local community to enhance livelihood of people through small intervention of vegetable cultivation, compost manure, fruit tree plantation etc. The community conservation centre which is developing as training centre in the village of KHAJRA will play important role for knowledge and awareness building of the community. The project will work with Eco Development Committee for strengthening their work and role towards conservation, EDC is not functioning well due to lack of knowledge, we will work on this issue and try to strengthen the EDC.
Firewood is a crucial issue at the local level, because people does not having any alternates for this, project is trying to motivate to use improved and smokeless chulah, which will reduce consumption of firewood in high volume. Bio-Globules/Brackets also another area to promote among community. It’s a very good initiative to use bio-waste for making of brackets. Simple technology will be promoted among community. This year the project moves towards school education also, we will engage children's on conservation through gives them education on wildlife and forest. Some school education will be initiated under the project.
The project is working on skill development on processing of Non Timber Forest Products, people will produce some products and market them for alternate source of income. Overall the project will strengthen community to make the world sustainable.
