24 Jul 2003 Manus Island, Papua New Guinea, Australasia Habitats
This project will enhance the knowledge of the island's biodiversity and obtain the knowledge needed to classify the endemic species.
The endemic fauna of Manus Island is poorly known. This project will enhance the knowledge of the Islands biodiversity and obtain the knowledge need to classify these animals. It is already known that seven unknown species of frog live on Manus Island and there are many other elusive endemic species.
This team will conduct a trans-island transect and work with local communities on a grass roots level. Data obtained will be reported and subsequently given back to the communities in the form of reports, to help landowners decide the future of their land. The Provincial Planning Office would like to initiate a conservation project on Manus; this project will help this plan. It will forge links with landowners across the Island and help educate local children.
