Conservation of the Banyan tree through community participation
Banyan trees play an important role in India’s ecology. However, the growth of this tree is now being affected in certain areas. The Project seeks to prevent the damage caused by goats that eat up the aerial roots of the banyan trees.
It aims to protect banyan trees by ensuring that their hanging roots develop fully and the tree is supported. It aims to achieve this objective by motivating and assisting the local community for protection of these roots. The proposal is for a pilot project for one year. Successful implementation would lead to a larger project in the future.
