Bee populations are declining at an accelerate rate worldwide due to anthropic action. In Brazil, the situation is particularly critical because many populations are still unknown. Such dreadful situation can be observed in the IUCN, where genera such as Augochloropsis are not even mentioned. Thus, many Augochlorines species can disappear before even basic information about them can be gathered, such as their geographical range.
The proposed project, thus, aims to inventory populations of bees from Brazil, focusing on Augochloropsis, an important genus of endemic pollinators. How can we conserve and protect species that we don’t even know of their existence?
