Hercegovina is one of the rare countries of Europe inhabited by two large carnivores: the brown bear and the gray wolf. Due to the nature of the relationship between man and the wolf this carnivore falls into the category of the most endangered animal species, exterminated from almost entire Western Europe. The wolf population in Hercegovina is a segment of one of several preserved populations in Europe. For that reason the presence of the wolf, like that of other large carnivores, is an indication of a well preserved and rich nature of a country.

Wildlife conservation centre *Gorski Vuk* will be a base Y.ECO.A. “Southern Blue Sky”, from which we will be managing the supplying of mountain breeding places for wild animals (roe deer, chamois, mouflons, wild boards etc., it is actually the natural quarry for wolfs and other predators). It is scientifically proved that wolfs, if they have enough natural quarry, make very little damage to human property.

Center for observing and protection of wilderness is planned to be built in the mountain, from where you can see at least 2 or 3 locations suitable for feeding place for wild animals, and to supervise the number and movement of the wolfs through radio VHF transmitter. We have already contact people who have experience in catching wolfs and finding wolf dens. Unwounded animal should be marked with the collar with radio VHF transmitter and in that way supervised home ranges, the radius of movement, activity of wolves and possible crossing to neighbouring countries (a boarder with Croatia is very near, where are, not only protected species but in some areas also artificial settlement).

My comprehension of the protection of the nature and wilderness is against killing of any wild animal, even if it is a wolf. Wolf actually makes a lot of damage to cattle breeders in Herzegovina, and maybe one of the main reasons is lack of natural quarry.

Main mission of Y.ECO.A. ”Southern Blue Sky” Trebinje, is support to wilderness and wild animals, for now through feeding place, and in the future with higher level of protection of the habitats and individual species of animals, and we will last in our mission.
