Breeding Population of the Great Snipe in Belarus: Trends, Current Threats and Pilot Restoration of Habitats
Conservation of the Great Snipe through a Development of Appropriate Habitat Management and Public Awareness
Habitat Inventory and identification of sites following the IBA criteria and development of national conservation action plan for the Great Snipe in Belarus.
The main aims of this project are to maintain the population of the Great Snipe and stop the destruction of its habitats. It is planned to carried out an inventory of Great Snipe habitats during 2004, identify key breeding sites following Important Bird Area criteria and analyse the main threatsto their survival.
The team will develop and publish the National Conservation Action Plan on the basis of gathered and compiled data. It is also planned to publish and publicise a special poster about Great Snipe in order to increase public awareness among workers in the forestry department and National Parks, as well as hunters. It is expected that identified key breeding areas for Great Snipe will be included in a network of protected territories.
