Student’s activities in producing the composting box.

The program will be carried out in one year. The first month of the activities will be used to select target schools and initiate network with Bogor department of Education. Three primary schools will be chosen based on their willingness to joint this program. Location of target schools are in district where there are marginal area surrounding Salak Mountain.

Salak Mountain about 40 Km southern Jakarta (capital city of Indonesia) is one of an important water catchments area that provided fresh water for people in Bogor and Sukabumi regency. Salak Mountain has high biodiversity with 796 plant species (128 endemics), 175 birds species with 15 species categories as endangered species. Salak Mountain has strategic position as ecology, economic and hydrologic whether direct or indirect for people especially in Bogor and Sukabumi regency.

Before we conduct the activities several issues such as frequency and period of visits, information and issues that are particular interests to school and students that will conveyed, methods of presentations and other supporting aspects will be discuss first with the schools authority. The topics that shall be covered include environmentally friendly behaviour, flora and fauna biodiversity especially in Salak Mountain, and nature games.

The activities will be conducted for two times a month for each school. At the sixth month of the activities, students will be asked to collect seed from Salak Mountain or from fruit they had eaten. They will be guided to make nursery.

The last one-month will be used for evaluation and planting activities from the nursery that had been made before. We expect that this program will encourage awareness of the local people and to enhance the Salak Mountain sustainability through the Schools community.
