Environmental Education Awareness through the Use of Local Media Stations in Tanzanian Northern Zone
The aim of this project is to raising environmental awareness of the peoples of these regions through the use of local Radios, among other conservation education and public awareness. A second aim is to ensure equitable use of natural resources and environment by local people whereby the use of local Radios will convey environmental message to local people and organize them to participate in environmental management events.
Most of local people around the northern Tanzania (Kilimanjaro, Arusha, Tanga and Manyara regions) they can afford to purchase tuner and tune radio station whereby they have started to reach the majority of rural people in this regions.
By introducing weekly environmental Education awareness programme to Radio station which is found in this region local people Will have an opportunity to participate by phone –in and asking some clarification and contribution which will reduce over utilization of natural resources and use other source of alternative.
Having this environmental education awareness programme in radio station will help to organize local people to participate in environmental management events such as tree planting day which done first year of January in Tanzania.
Organize competition awards to individuals or institutions such as schools, non-governmental organization that show environmental management commitment this will promote other institutions, individuals to improve their environment.
The project will purchase indigenous tree seedlings to be planted and this will focus on agriculture land and forest where degradation and Over utilization of forest products by local communities and encroachment into the two forests.
The project will purchase books to support the teaching of environmental education syllabus in primary and secondary schools.
It will form partnership with local and international institutions in influencing change of behaviour of local population towards the environment.
