Environmental Education Awareness through the Use of Local Broadcasting Station in Northern Tanzania (East-Africa)

The project aims to increase knowledge and awareness on key environmental issues among the general public, and increased people’s participation in environmental protection and management activities.

Increased awareness and sensitivity among the population in the region, on all important issues concerning the deteriorating environment and the necessary remedial measures needed. Readiness of the people to voluntarily participate in environmental protection campaigns, and peoples demand for support from the government, through increased budgets for environmental protection.

Increased interaction of people in different activities while lively and freely speaking and debating about the environment.

Different social groups coming together in an informal atmosphere and getting opportunity to share views and ideas concerning their environment, leading to enhanced awareness, knowledge and commitment towards a safer environment.

A future society that is enlightened on environmental protection and management issues. Enhanced knowledge, awareness, sensitivity and commitment among the population in the next 3 years. Increased productivity of the people and the natural resources in their environment.

At least three thousand surviving trees planted in one year in northern zone of the region. Concentration of planted trees shall depend on the severity of deforestation of each particular district. Developed habit of tree planting and love for trees among youths, right from school and later on as grown up individuals in their respective localities.

Improved environment through increased sense of responsibility by leaders and government executives at district, down to the village level.

Increased awareness on environmental issues among both, the leaders and the general public, prompted by involvement in the preparation for the annual competitions. Ways of making these competitions permanent after the one year of the project cycle elapses shall be explored to maintain the tempo created by the project.
