Commercial drivers in Ghana contribute to natural resource degradation in many ways knowingly and unknowingly. They are the transporters of illegal bush meat (meat of wildlife) and cause a lot of road kills of wildlife. They are also a very important medium for communicating because they frequently come into contact with a lot of ordinary people and their views are respected by many people. Improving conservation awareness among them will help to reduce the impact of their activities on natural resources and help to communicate responsible natural resource management in Ghana.

This is a pilot project which aims at improving conservation awareness among long-distance commercial drivers in Ghana. The project activities include educational activities such as nature trips, workshops and videos for local drivers' unions. Also, to improve the communication of responsible wildlife conservation activities, conservation education t-shirts will be produced and distributed to these drivers to wear. This will help spread the conservation message because they travel often between cities. Conservation awareness will be assessed before and after the project for evaluation. These are expected to bring about more environmental responsibility and reduce natural resource degradation in Ghana.
