Diversity and Distribution of the Dendroceros Genus in Brazil and Colombia, Implications for the Conservation of Montane Forests in Tropics

Gabriel Felipe Peñaloza B

We intend to cover several goals, as: a) to compare the material collected with original material for the determination of these new specimens; b) to confirm the presence of the species reported years ago in the ecosystem, improving data on the current conservation status of each species; c) to know the current state of diversity of the group, increasing existing information on the diversity of their ecosystems; and d) to collect ecological data of the group to establish criteria on the state of conservation of the genus.

None

The genus Dendroceros is one of the most diverse among the hornworts, but in the Neotropics information on its diversity and ecology is scarce. To provide a classification on the state of conservation of the species, including their threats in the montane forests of Brazil and Colombia, may help us to protect and conserve these highly threatened species and their ecosystems. For this, it is essential to evaluate the real state of conservation of the genus, its diversity and distribution in the Neotropics, as well as the consequences of these actions on the conservation of tropical montane forests.

We intend to cover several goals, as:

a) to compare the material collected with original material for the determination of these new specimens;

b) to confirm the presence of the species reported years ago in the ecosystem, improving data on the current conservation status of each species;

c) to know the current state of diversity of the group, increasing existing information on the diversity of their ecosystems;

d) to collect ecological data of the group to establish criteria on the state of conservation of the genus.
