An assessment of the avian diversity of the Babuyan Islands, Northern Philippines
The Babuyan Islands comprise a unique site for avian threatened and restricted-range species and island-endemic subspecies. A prospective eco-tourism industry will increase demand on resources already under pressure from unsustainable farming and logging practices. This project aims to provide the community and government with data for the development of a management plan and for the Protected Area Site Assessment of the islands. An avifaunal survey will be conducted in the islands with notes on other terrestrial fauna and flora, yielding information on biodiversity, key habitats and threats in this biologically important site, enabling conservation measures to be implemented.
