Malindi Pipit is Near-threatened species with localized range inhabiting the coastal grasslands of Kenya and Somali where it is endemic. There is lack of information on current population, range, habitat preferences and threats. This even more urgent considering increased pressure to convert parts of its known small range into agriculture including biofuels.

Documenting this information is a priority to inform science-based site-based conservation, management interventions, monitoring, decision making, policy and advocacy including a review of its conservation status including down-listing or up-listing. Results will be used in engaging local communities in conservation initiatives, friendly land use activities and community-led advocacy.
