This study will be aimed at the conservation of the Eurasian otter (Lutra lutra) in Georgia. The study site is the river Alazani as it runs through Vashlovani protected areas and associated large commercial fishponds. Otter number is declining due to fur trade and conflict with fish farm owners. Also new problem – destroying of otter habitat by tourists and fishermen has risen in last years. The proposed project will explore ways of reducing the negative impacts of tourism in the Vashlovani protected areas, continue reduction of conflict and build a basis for otter monitoring in the country.
