Project aims to collect data on breeding population of Egyptian Vulture in Lesser Caucasus with in the territory of Azerbaijan. This will allow us to get information about current status of these birds and distribution model will be our guide for future activities and planning for the conservation of "project species" and as well the Important Bird Areas.
Field research.
Caucasus is one of two hotspots in Europe for biodiversity and Azerbaijan is situated on very important flyway and it hosts an important number of globally threatened raptors. During previous years several species of raptors has been studied but it is still not covering the whole territory of the country. Project will focuses on the population of Egyptian Vulture in Lesser Caucasus. The area has never been studied for this species therefore project results will be very valuable for the future conservation activities.
Project will involve different stakeholders including local communities, non-governmental, governmental and scientific institutions. The project report will be presented to the governmental conservation bodies and the results will be sent to all necessary organizations for use in their nature conservation activities. Regular work with media will help us to have the attention to these species and it will directly have its impact on effective conservation of the birds and their habitats. The stakeholders involved to the projects at project areas will become a part of network which the Azerbaijan Ornithological Society is currently working on.
