Hilloljyoti Singha
Shankarghola is a remote village 35kms from the district headquarter town of Bongaigaon in Bongaigaon District. It is in the fringe of Bhairab Chura PRF, under the jurisdiction of Abhayapuri Range Office of Aie Valley Division. It is a small village of Rabha and Garo tribe and some Bengali Hindu The forest is of mixed moist deciduous type and supports mane wildlife including the famous Golden Langur Trachypithecus geei.
The forest has been degrading gradually in the entire Bhairab Chura Range, but some youths are interested to keep the forest in tact at Shankarghola. It appears to be a good habitat for the species. Considering the habitat shrinkage, in future, with the help of the local community, this area could be improved to be an abode for Golden Langurs. Along with this, the biodiversity of the area would be saved. The project also tries to find out ways to uplift socio-economic status of the local community.
