The project aims to study and conservation of gymnosperm species in Hoang Lien National Park as well as in Vietnam.

Hoang Lien National Park is the one of hotspot biodiversity in Vietnam. The highest peak is Fansipan with 3,143m (the highest mountain in Indochina). There are 10 Gymnosperm species was recorded in the Park so far with 9 species are listed in the Red List of IUCN (2009). However, there is very limited information on their ecology, habitat, distribution, population, and conservation status at Hoang Lien National Park.

Through the activities of the project, we hope:

1. To contribute a better understanding of gymnosperm species in Hoang Lien National Park in particular and in Vietnam in general.

2. To provide information of ecology, habitat and distribution of all gymnosperm species in Hoang Lien National Park.

3. To provide description to identify of all gymnosperm species in Hoang Lien National Park in order to identify (useful for researchers, students, conservationists, staff in Hoang Lien NP, local people and tourist.

4. To raise the awareness among responsible authorities, staff in the Park, students and researchers in the Vietnam Forestry University, and local people on gymnosperm species.

5. To provide dry specimens of gymnosperm species for the herbarium of the Vietnam Forest University, those materials can be used for teaching and studying by lecturers, and students at the Vietnam Forest University.

6. To make recommendation for conservation of gymnosperm species in Hoang Lien National Park.
