The Western Ghats hill ranges harbour many endemic and threatened large mammals. Although many parks are been made to protect them, they are facing serious threats, among them local hunting is also one. Our previous studies have shown the disappearance of rare animals from these forests due to local hunting.
The forest officials are unaware of the mammals occur, their status, the hunting activity and its impact on animals in their respective areas.
This study focuses on to establish baseline data on animals in Talakaveri Wildlife Sanctuary, Pushpagiri Wildlife Sanctuary and Sharavathi Valley Wildlife Sanctuary and evaluate the hunting pressure on mammals, which will help in protecting them.
