Armenia is especially rich in snakes (22 species) and most of them are threatened. In Armenia interactions between snakes and people are inevitable and the lack of information on snakes leads to conflict and both sides are therefore harmed. The raise of public awareness on snakes strongly influences the effectiveness of conservation efforts. It is therefore very important to produce a film focusing on the Armenian snakes in order to improve environmental awareness and change the negative attitude towards snakes.

It is expected that 26-minute documentary “Safety coexisting with the snakes of Armenia” will be widely distributed and will positively improve the conservation of snakes in Armenia. The documentary will play an important role in disseminating knowledge on the diversity of snakes and how take advantage from their presence and how to promote their conservation.

Documentary “Safety coexisting with the snakes of Armenia” will consist of the following parts: diversity of Armenian snakes, ecology of snakes, snakes as predators and prey, how to identify the venomous snakes, behaviour towards to snakes, snakebite treatment: first aid information, the role of snakes in the Armenian history, religion and literature and the importance of snakes: conservation and protection.

Once the documentary has been made, it should be shown to the broad public. The documentary will broadcasted by first Armenian channel. Copies of the film on DVD will be sent to all the state and regional environmental organizations, high education institutions and ministries of Armenia.
