The proposed project is aimed to promote the conservation of N. clipeata in West Kalimantan.
This project is a continuation of the initiative to save critically endangered Nepenthes clipeata on Mt. Kelam, West Kalimantan, from extinction. The initiative project “conservation of critically endangered Nepenthes clipeata” started in 2010 supported by the first RSG.
The current project idea is based on suggestions of local communities during village meetings for people living near Nepenthes clipeata’s habitat in 2010.
Nepenthes clipeata has experienced high level of pressures and threats over the last two decades. Pressures and threats on N. clipeata include massive illegal harvesting and forest fires. Lack of public knowledge also worsens the situation. The project is aimed to promote the conservation of N. clipeata in West Kalimantan. We will conduct training on Nepenthes cultivation for local communities, conservation club meeting, essay contest for undergraduate students in West Kalimantan, information board making and dissemination of campaign materials.
Key outcomes of the project include the production of campaign materials, training on cultivation for local communities, conservation club meeting, the placement of information board on the conservation of N. clipeata on Mt. Kelam, and participation of undergraduate students in West Kalimantan on essay contest. Campaign materials including information board are excellent media to promote the conservation of N. clipeata. They will be disseminated to participants of the training on Nepenthes clipeata cultivation, chief of sub-villages around Mt. Kelam, local government officers, etc.
