Enhancing the Conservation of Biodiversity in Mbololo Forest in the Taita Hills through Participatory Forest Management
Promoting/Enhancing Biodiversity Conservation through Enhanced Indigenous Forest Connectivity in Taita Hills: Phase 1 (Mbololo/Mwambirwa Sgment).
The primary aim of this project is to contribute towards biodiversity conservation using the endemic and critically endangered birds as the flagship species through the enhancement of indigenous forest connectivity across the Taita Hills.
The project will essentially involve activities geared towards enhancing indigenous tree cover connectivity between Kinyeshamvua and Ngangao forests whose gap is about 3.5km. The activities will include awareness creation in biodiversity conservation and its linkage to livelihood status, initiation of participatory forest management, translation of scientific findings through the use of Participatory GIS, farmer identification (those areas that fall along the “least-cost paths” as per the “Least-Cost Forest Connectivity Model for Taita Hills” and tree planting.
