Elephant fence.

Sunsari district lies on the flood plain of the Sapta Koshi River of eastern Nepal, has wide range of forest named “Char kose Jhadhi (Four miles dense)” It is the largest dense of Nepal that is important habitat for wildlife and other endanger animals. Especially there is huge number of Elephants living together. So the region uses to be called “Elephant camps”.

Elephant Corridor promotion activity

After completed the first RSG programme, People are still in competition for living space with elephants here. Formation of elephant habitat watch group, formation community forestry user group, resource mapping, elephant corridor management, wall construction around agriculture land, capacity development activities are realized successful. Some of the activities like: awareness of elephant conservation for ecology, forest conservation, implementation of land use policy, management of elephant friendly product, provision of compensation and reward, village information centre management, institutional networking etc are the partially achieved. Likewise, Capacity Development and Habitat Restoration, alternative livelihood program, animal husbandry, chilli production, Sustainable Elephant Habitat Management and Conflict Mitigation and dissemination activities have been also partially fulfilled. Thus, local people are demanding the program again for completing the incomplete activities. Regarding the situation, we have planned to go there through the programme.
