This project aims at ground based survey and expects to develop capacity building for forest management, reduce trading of pangolin/ parts of pangolin in the state and extension of conservation social networks in the project site through awareness programs.
Pangolins are the most heavily trafficked mammals in illegal wildlife trade globally, driven by demand for meat, skins and scales for traditional medicines. Although all pangolin species are globally threatened, Chinese pangolin is categorized as Critically Endangered by IUCN, (2016-3). Local ecological knowledge is increasingly seen as an important source of information for conservation, than conventional field surveys. With paucity of research on pangolins in the country; information on trade of pangolins, routes and reasons for trading, analyzing socio-economic aspects, and awareness campaign for sympathetic towards pangolin will serve as an important factor for conservation of the species.
