The Endangered African wild dog persists only in a handful of countries and virtually nothing is known of its distribution and status in Mozambique, a key population linking Tanzania’s dogs with those in southern Africa.

A field team will survey the centre and the North of the country, and gather baseline ecological information on dog distribution, relative abundance, habitat availability, prey and competitor species and people attitudes to dogs in and around three protected areas. Additionally, the project will generate information for policy-makers, develop technical skills among local conservation actors, and promote constructive relationships with local communities, so acting as a trigger for further conservation actions.
