Forest Landscape Restoration in the Rwenzori Mountains Ecosystem, S W Uganda
The Rwenzori Mountains represent an outstanding area for biological diversity with a distinct assemblage of species that are unique to the Albertine Rift eco-region. The area suffered from insecurity in the region from 1998 to 2002. During these troubled times, displaced people encroached the forest. Now that peace has returned, this initiative will engage stakeholders in Forest Landscape Restoration to ensure that the goods and services provided by the forest are restored and/or maintained for human benefit. The initiative will also promote forest conservation through education of local communities and decision makers on the value of the Rwenzori forest ecosystem.
