The aims of this project are to provide first insight into bryophyte flora and diversity of selected highly specific and fragile habitats, and to bring new data on national distribution and ecology for some species of high conservation interest, which will enable active conservation of the area in the future. Also, one of the important aims of the project is to raise public awareness on the significance of these areas, as well to educate children about this neglected group of plants.
Selevenj salt marsh
The research will focus on several fragmented, highly specific and fragile habitat types located in the northernmost part of Serbia - Vojvodina province. Due to the climatic and pedological peculiarities, relatively small surface is mosaically covered in different habitats, mostly dry and to some extent salty.
These represent very important centres of local biodiversity, as region of Vojvodina is mostly agricultural land. Considering that bryophyte flora of the Vojvodine is poorly known and documented, this research will provide first insight into bryophyte flora and species richness of the habitats in selected areas. It will bring new data on distribution and ecology for some species of high conservation interest, both locally and in Europe, and will enable active conservation and better management of the area in the future.
