Characterization of Livestock Management for Conservation of the Jaguar in Northeast Mexico (2nd Phase)
The aim of the project is to get an estimate of the damages caused in livestock by jaguar and other carnivorous and developing recommendations for the design of interventions that help to solve the conflict groups human-carnivorous.
The objective is to evaluate the economic impact on cattle by depredation of carnivorous mammals (Panthera onca, Puma concolor, Ursus americanus and Canis latranas) and to understand the social perceptions towards these species of the landowners of the Gran Sierra Plegada in southern of Nuevo Leon, Mexico. The proposal involves working directly with landowners in coordination with the local cattle ranchers’ associations. The work intends to contribute data on the economic losses caused by carnivorous and to understand the human-carnivorous conflict and its implications for these species’ conservation. This is the first work of its type in this area.
