Many non-human primates (NHP) species face extinction due to habitat loss and fragmentation. Additionally, these processes have been involved in pathogen emergence, and impact NHP populations. In this regard, evidence suggests that pathogen-NHP interactions and dynamics can be influenced by biological, environmental, and socio- anthropological traits.
Therefore, this project aims to:
1) detect viral agents (Parvovirus and Hepacivirus) in endangered neotropical NHP species,
2) apply a comprehensive approach that intertwines environmental and host biological features with the virus presence and circulation in anthropized environments,
3) implement ethno-primatological approaches, to understand perceptions, attitudes, and risks towards NHP-human interactions in local populations.
