The project “Contribution to the conservation of the fish Mormyrus subundulatus in the Aluipkli voluntary nature reserve” focuses on the conservation of Mormyrus subundulatus, a vulnerable species of fish found in the Bandama River in Côte d'Ivoire. This species is highly threatened by overfishing, habitat degradation, and other human pressures. The main aim of the project is to assess the status of the M. subundulatus population and implement strategies for its conservation.

The project will collect bioecological data, such as the abundance, spatial distribution, and breeding areas of M. subundulatus, in the new Aluipkli voluntary nature reserve. In addition, the physico-chemical and hydrological parameters of the fish's habitat will be analysed to understand the environmental conditions essential to its survival. Another key element of the project is the socio-economic analysis of the fishing restrictions imposed on local communities, which will guide sustainable management practices. The project will also include training for 100 people from the surrounding communities on reducing anthropogenic pressures and the importance of conserving this species.

Through data collection, training sessions, and awareness-raising activities, the project aims to improve overall conservation strategies for M. subundulatus while encouraging the involvement of local communities. The results will be disseminated to conservation stakeholders in order to strengthen conservation efforts and ensure the long-term survival of the species.
