This project seeks to save and protect the last remaining Romanian habitat of the endangered water lily.
Our aim is to save and protect the last remaining Romanian habitat of the endangered water lily species. The lotus grows in the natural hot spring waters of the biologically diverse 'Paraul Petea' Nature Reserve in Nothwest Romania. The reserve suffers from pollution, habitat destruction, and the loss of water supply.
The project will solve four top barriers to conservation: the habitat must be professionally surveyed to establish the physical boundaries and ownership rights, a fence must be built to eliminate the most important pollution sources, and education and site supervision must be introduced.
