The aim of the project is to ensuing community based participatory management of forest resources of Sundarban of Bangladesh and skill development and awareness creation of the forest dependent community through capacity building, campaign and conducting advocacy local, national and international level with the policy makers international aid organizations and concerned authority for developing community effective policy and laws and also Sensitising the duty bearers through mobilization. Increasing CSOs voice for effective management of forest resource by establishing strong network.
Cultural Program.
Mangrove forest is one of the primary features of the coastlines throughout the tropics and subtropics of the world and, locally known as "Sundarban". It is an important natural resource provides In addition it supports a very rich and diverse flora and fauna. It is the largest remaining habitat for the Royal-Bengal Tiger and its number about 500.
The forest has been under intensive pressure of exploitation for the last few decades which, in addition to direct clearance and conversion have placed the mangrove under extreme threat. Shrimp farming is the most destructive form of resource use the mangrove has been converted to, which contributed significantly to mangrove destruction with a corresponding loss of biological resources. Besides this, one type of species of wild Buffalo, two types of species of Deer, two types of Gondar, and one type of fresh water Crocodile have already extinct. On the other hand, Pana Deer, Blue Cow, Wild Wolf, Wild Cow, Lalsir Duck, Peacock, Meso Crocodile also have faded away. Now it is very urgent to take initiative for strengthening capacity more campaign and research activities and increasing awareness of the forest depended community and policy advocacy for ensuing proper management of forest.
Through the project the capacity of the forest depended communities will be increased and their involvement in the forest conservation will be enhanced. The voice of the Forest people will be increased for demanding their rights, better livelihood and access to natural resources. Movement for participatory forest conservation and the culture and livelihood opportunities of the poor people who have been traditionally dependent on forest related occupations will be enhanced. Long-term conservation of the rich biodiversity of the Sundarban region will be enhanced. A sustainable and participatory forest management will ensure the long term conservation of the forest.
It is expected that the effort of the proposed project will make a substantial and long lasting contribution on sustainable conservation and integrated management of the Sundarban by the effective participation of all stakeholders. Nature conservation and community based approach of the proposed project will make a substantial contribution to reverse the trend of the current deforestation and loss of biodiversity which consequently will assist sustainable livelihood, national economic development, the conservation of this world heritage site.
