The aim of the project is to assist the GoA in its efforts to ensure good governance in the extraction of natural resources in Aceh, and to draft a document of best practise.
In March 2010, the Government of Aceh (GoA) established a special task force to conduct a review of all concessions and licences for the forestry, mining and estate plantation sectors. Eye on Aceh is a key member of this task force and is assisting the GoA to collect and evaluate all administrative documents, exploration reports, and other licence-related data, as well as participating in ground truthing.
Eye on Aceh is also conducting research on the social and environmental consequences of the recent rapid expansion of the extractive industry in the province. Results of this research will inform the concessions review process.
The GoA is also committed to establishing an integrated database of concession holders, as well as a code of best practise for natural resource utilisation in Aceh. Eye on Aceh will assist in these endeavours.
