Community-Based Management and Conservation of the Endangered Birds of the Lebialem Highlands/Western Mt Bamboutos, South West Cameroon
Montane Birds conservation education project in and around Lebialem Highlands Forests, South West Province, Cameroon
Many of the Montane Birds endemic to Lebialem Highlands, are totally protected by Cameroon law. However human pressure, deforestation, fast habitat fragmentation and so on are causing severe declines in the populations of these globally threatened IUCN birds’ species.
This project seeks to initiate the restoration of the depleted bird populations, and protect their ecosystems. The project activities will include training of youths, development of community leadership, information dissemination and support building. The desired outcomes include increased population of the birds, sustained improvement in local knowledge, attitudes and behaviour and greater support for, and involvement in, the management process of the birds.
