Reconciling Conservation and Forest Use in an Endangered Ecosystem, Promoting the Regeneration of Species of Forest Value in the Argentine Pidmont Forest

Analyse the changes in the dynamics of the regeneration of commercial trees, in pedemontano forests of the Austral Yungas, associated with forest exploitation that may affect the sustainable use thereof, in order to delineate new management guidelines.

The premountain forest of the southern Yungas is considered a relic of the pleistocene arch that has numerous endemisms of trees, many of which are used forestry and are threatened. The premountain is one of the most threatened ecosystems, where 90% of its original surface has been lost. These forests have poor regeneration, but the dynamics of this critical stage are unknown, whose mechanism is fundamental to ensure sustainable forest management and therefore the conservation of this ecosystem.

New silvicultural guidelines will be developed to be implemented by forestry companies and state control agencies.
