The aim of our project is to increase awareness and conservation of the Andean forests of Bolivia and small mammals.

Small Mammal - Opossum.

Small Mammal - Opossum.

The Dry-Interandean and Cloud forests of the Andes of Bolivia are highly threatened habitats and home to many endemic species of plants and animals. Small mammals are little known in these environments and aspects of their biology and ecology group are scarce. The importance of conservation of these habitats is given by the presence of these mammalian species and the environmental services they provide, because are water reservoirs and high productivity centers. Our methodology includes the field work on dry and cloud forests, with the record of the species of rodents, marsupials, records habitats and additional information, along with the visit to Scientific Collections for species identification.

This project also seeks to work with the communities near these forests, which are within and outside protected areas, to inform and raise awareness about how beneficial it is preserve these forests for all. With this first step we intend to continue doing research in Andean forests and establish foundations for further studies on small mammals and other groups, and always maintain contact with the community by sharing the information we create and establish it into an instrument for the conservation of Andean forests and their species.
