The aim of the project is to educate the children of the importance to conserve the environment and wildlife, and to assist by way of surveillance with specialised teams to assist the KWS rangers and Forest guards
Through the Wildlife Clubs we show by way of trips around the Parks and Forest what is their heritage and how to protect it. Using solar systems and improved cookers we demonstrate the saving in firewood, charcoal, and fuels. We also assist in conserving water, increasing food production with improved seed and cultivation methods, and establishing fish ponds. We also supply tree seedlings and have planting ceremonies giving prizes to those best maintained. This helps as alternatives to poaching for bush meat. Besides all this the children are given essays to write on conservation and competition drawings which are assessed in the UK for the top three in each school with prizes given at a luncheon picnic whilst touring the parks.
In the field our teams collect snares, monitor the destroying of Trees and supply seedlings to plant more. All this information is passed on to the Kenya Wildlife Services and Foresters for action as required. Our teams also collect specimens of Bongo for DNA processing, and monitor through GPS coordinates and Trap cameras the numbers and exact locations of Bongo herds.
