Central Region of Vietnam has always suffered from many natural disasters. The wetland, especially saltwater and brackish water, is quite large but the area covered by forest is very low and dispersed. The total area of mangroves in Duy Xuyen district is 21.9 ha, distributed along the waterfront in the communes of Duyvinh, Duynghia, Duythanh. Mangroves, in particular Duy Xuyen district, are currently at risk of being exploited, used excessively to serve economic development, resulting in serious deforestation. However, the mangrove system in Duyxuyen district, Quang Nam province has not been fully studied yet. There are not any exact statistics about composition of species, number of trees, diversity, and status of environmental ecology of mangrove vegetation.

Therefore, it is necessary to propose solutions for the sustainable management of mangroves. Normally, the previous research just focused on investigating actuality of mangrove systems to contribute more details about the mangrove system in the individual district along the coastal line of Central Vietnam. However, there was not any research building mangrove database and analyzing resources, as the basis for the proposed solutions for the protection and sustainable development in local level in Vietnam.

Investigating the species composition and structure of mangrove forests in Duy Xuyen district, Quang Nam province to prepare the basic for building plan of restoration and conservation of mangrove species for the Duy Xuyen district and the province of Quang Nam.

- Building databases and distribution map of mangrove systems in Duy Xuyen district: in order to identify the current status and value of the mangrove forest and synthesize a database for managing mangrove systems of the district..

- Finding the influence of the environmental factors to the mangrove flora district of Duy Xuyen: identification of species resistant to harsh environments and species sensitive to environmental factors in order to look for suitable conservation and development solutions for the mangrove systems in locality.

- Finding the influence of the human impact on the mangrove system in local: through the focus group discussion, participatory mapping to determine the factors related to livelihoods as well as other factors to build a social solutions to strengthen the livelihood capacity of mangrove-dependent communities, conserveavailable mangrove forest area and restore mangrove forest in degraded areas. SWOT analysis will be also apply during this survey to address opportunities and threats for the community-based mangrove management issues.
