A project focusing on the agroforestry systems practised in and adjacent to the Maya Biosphere Reserve of Northern Peten, Guatemala.
Can diverse agroforestry systems mitigate rainforest destruction, and do they offer a sustainable livelihood strategy for small scale farmers? The general aim of the research project is to show that diverse agroforestry systems do have the potential to provide the small-scale farmers of northern Peten with a sustainable livelihood, while at the same time, implicit in the word sustainable, complement the biodiversity conservation strategy for this highly biodiverse region.
