Conservation Awareness Campaign for Communities around the Agumatsa Wildlife Sanctuary in the Hohoe District of Ghana II
This phase of the project is to continue to sustain conservation education and awareness in the Agumatsa Wildlife enclave through the use of an innovative Mobile Education Van (MEV).
Having implemented two years of this project the team members have gained the needed experience and understands the community dynamics to continue this project through a Mobile Education Van which is a departure from the usual classroom like lectures which is often boring for most communities.
The Agumatsa Wildlife Sanctuary is home to several wildlife, notably, mona monkeys, bats, over 200 bird and 400 butterfly species, populations of global significance, making it an area of great conservation importance.
As demand for energy and meat continue to intensify with increasing population, while knowledge on conservation is low, due to lack of community integration into the area’s environmental management system; wildlife population decreases and certain species are being extinct. The project aims therefore to offer community education on the importance of sustainable utilisation of natural resources and to integrate them into the local environmental management through a mobile education van.
