Betock Community Forestry Project, Cameroon
The Cameroonian forestry law No. 94/01of 1994 gave room for local communities to own part of and manage state forest as community forests. This policy aims at giving access to and greater management control of forests to local people in a bid to alleviate poverty and encourage them to become active sustainable forest management partners.
Ten years after the enactment of the law, few communities have obtained community forests because the process is long, tedious and expensive. The project will facilitate the process of obtaining a community forest by the Betock community situated in the South West Province of Cameroon.
