This pilot project promotes awareness of agro-forestry practices in farm, degraded and unused land for livelihood improvement and biodiversity conservation. It will stress the positive effect that agroforestry can bring to farmers through better land management in western Nepal. The project will use educational and field-based activities, involving small farmers groups, local youths, students and teachers, and be monitored and evaluated by a locally formed program management committee. The activities include conservation coaching, observation visit, conservation rally, establishment of demonstration plots and dissemination of community’s conservation efforts. The project will empower the local farmers on agroforestry and will be successful to change the attitude of the people on traditional farming system.
That ensures the food security and fulfils the daily need of firewood and building materials, stabilizing soil and hence increasing the local habitat heterogeneity. Similarly, project focuses on participatory activities, local community will involve in each activities with the coordination and monitoring under locally formed program management committees (PMC's). In addition, the project inspires to change people’s attitude for the sustainable management of their land for better socioeconomic status and sustainable conservation of biodiversity. Thus, the project will be successful in drawing the attention of government to initiate such programs in many rural communities of the country.
