This project attempts the the first ever estimation of tiger population in Manas by specifically designed camera.
Manas, once famous for tiger, has passed a difficult period during 1960s due to civil unrest and lost many of its prime habitats. The population estimation of Tiger in Manas was earlier done by pugmark method, as official method followed in India. Many experts have rejected this method questioning its authenticity specifically in habitat like Manas, where substrate is not suitable for pugmark count. Hence the first ever estimation of tiger population in Manas by specifically designed camera has been proposed. Simultaneous Save Tiger campaign is also proposed to build up the capacity of local people to sustain tiger conservation.
