Protection Strategy for Forest Fragments in the Bongolava Forest Corridor Protected Area in Collaboration with the Community

19 May 2020 Bongolava Forest Corridor Protected Area, Madagascar, Africa Communities | Forests

Raharisoa Marie Wailine

The main objective of this project is to protect the forest fragments in collaboration with the occupants of the AP Bongolava. To achieve this objective, we have two specific objectives. First, all the occupants inside this AP are identified and each recorded in a specification. Secondly, each concerned Fokontany has a wood supply site.

The project will be carried out in the Bongolava Forest Corridor Protected Area. This project will allow us both to collect information on the occupants inside this protected area and to adopt possible strategies to restore fragmented habitats where lemur species take refuge, from community reforestation activities. From this project, we will identify and record with a set of specifications the existing occupants, study the potential reforestation sites in each intervention zone and install a nursery center intended for the production of young plants meeting the identified needs.
