The project “Dolphin (Platanista gangetica) Conservation Awareness Project" is carried out in Karnali River and its tributaries, near Royal Bardiya National Park, with the active participation of local people. The project completes in one year around.

It mainly aims to protect Dolphin, an endangered mammal, through increasing awareness on dolphin conservation among the peoples at local and national/international level. The project primarily focuses awareness programs at the local level through secondary school level speech competition, essay competition and calendar distribution to the local people.

Secondarily, the project focuses it programs at the national/international level through formation of online network group and building up web site. The online network group, on the one hand, facilitates nature conservationists to stay on common online network forum to discuss and share ideas, information and knowledge about dolphins and the website facilitates providing lots of information about the dolphins found in and outside the Nepal on the other.

Besides these, the project also conducts habitat mapping of dolphin found in the project area. This work further provides baseline data to the students or researchers to conduct their research on this endangered mammal in future.
