Preliminary survey work has revealed a high intensity of hunting and trade of owls in Nepal. Annually, at least 2000 owls are being traded to either India or China and thousands are being killed at the local level. Little effort has been made to conserve these owls until now. This project will undertake an array of educational initiatives on owls, targeted at the local and national levels to help conserve them, with international implications as well which will have direct beneficial impact on 21 owl species in the country. Three owl conservation workshop, 12 radio programs, conservation materials and 100 owl conservation camps will be conducted to achieve the aims. These initiatives will be targeted to the three regions of the country i.e. eastern, central and far-western. Students, local people, officials from government line agencies will be targeted to benefit from these initiatives.
