The aim is to disseminate our research achievements from Mbembe Forest area for public hearing through seminar workshops, and presentations.

The Biodiversity assessment undertaken by TroPEG is the first elaborate piece of work on the vegetation of Mbembe since its creation in 1934. Knowing the boundaries and having an idea of the reserve at the moment. It is timely to disseminate this information to the public through seminar workshops, presentations and publications.

During the workshop two categories of stakeholders are involved:

i. Local resource users (logging groups, NTFPs exploiter group, traditional authorities, and local administration). Their main interest is to see into it that this forest is maintained. Policy brief will be produced and shared to these groups that include information on the value of the area and management recommendations. During dissemination workshop, these groups will be educated on lobby strategies to coerce government and other development partners to implement conservation programs in the Mbembe forest area.

ii. The second category; will include central government (Ministry of Forest), Conservation agency like WWF, SNV, IUCN etc. Prints of the survey of the Mbembe forest area will be shared to them. During dissemination workshop, funding avenues like forest and Environment sector program, GEF, etc will be discussed. Possibilities of projects to manage the neglected Mbembe forest will be identified and a road map for fund raising put in place.

By disseminating the findings of the biodiversity assessment of Mbembe forest reserve; this project will achieve the following:

-Raise awareness on the biodiversity richness of this area

-Raise awareness of the need for measures to conserve/ preserve this biodiversity

-Interest will be developed from researchers and academia to undertake further research in this area.

-Development organizations will design livelihood programs to provide alternatives to the forest dependent communities so that this biodiversity will be preserved.

To summaries our achievements:

-A preliminary checklist of trees, herbs and medicinal plants were presented.

-The IUCN Conservation status (90%) of all recorded species were assessed and presented.

-A vegetation report of the area was presented.

-Publications from the work are underway.

Thus, while the present proposal is focused on disseminating the current findings, it is recommended that a more extensive survey be carried out in Ndaka, Abbafum, Akwese, Assa and Ako. This will give a better assessment of the biodiversity potential and medicinal value of the reserve.
