Investigation of Wildlife Trade in Myanmar-Thailand Border Cities under Growing Trans-Boundary Economic Trade
Local People-Based Approaches to Investigate and Address Wildlife Trade and Consumption in Tanintharyi Region, the Southern Part of Myanmar
Project aims:
- To investigate which wildlife species are being traded,
- To assess the status of protection afforded to those species in trade; and, to investigate trade routes
Assessment of the impacts of wildlife trade at Mong-La city, eastern Shan State, on the border with China, will conduct one year project. A range of wildlife species will be found for sale at Mong-La market in Mong-La city. The research will base on field studies and involve interviews with local people and on direct observations to assess hunting and wildlife trade patterns, and to identification of the species hunted, trade routes and sources. The finding of this investigation will lead to improved enforcement of the law with regard to the illegal trade in wildlife in Mong-La.
