The Imperial eagle is globally threatened. This project will work in Bulgaria to raise public awareness for eagle conservation and increase the breeding success of the species
The Imperial eagle (Aquila heliaca) is globally threatened. In Bulgaria, there are nine known nests and a few more pairs with as yet unknown nest locations. This project will discover the location of these nests, designate these nest locations as protected areas, attempt to prevent disturbance, raise public awareness for eagle conservation and increase the breeding success of the species.
The main activities are: a breeding distribution survey, support for the designation of new protected areas, wardening of the most threatened nests, providing supplementary food during the breeding season, training volunteers in conservation techniques and promoting species friendly agricultural and forestry practices.
